이번 챕터에서는 여러 거짓말과 그 거짓말을 하는 사람을 언급하는 어구에 대해서 공부해 보도록 하겠습니다.

Possessed of a lively imagination and a ready tongue, you can distort facts as smoothly and as effortlessly as you can say your name. But you do not always get away with your lies. Ironically enough, it is your very smoothness that makes you suspect: your answers are too quick to be true. Even if we can’t immediately catch you in your lies, we have learned from unhappy past experience not to suspend our critical faculties when you are talking. We admire your nimble wit, but we listen with a skeptical ear.

단어의 어감설명

Lies, after all, are bad – they are frequently injurious to other people,  and may have a particularly dangerous effect on you as a liar. At best, if you are caught you suffer some embarrassment. At worst, if you succeed in your deception your character becomes warped and your sense of values suffers. Almost all lies are harmful; some are no less than vicious. If you are one type of liar, all your lies are vicious-calculatedly, predeterminedly, coldly, and advisedly vicious. In short, your lies are so outstandingly hurtful that people gasp in amazement and disgust at hearing them.

여튼 거짓말은 나쁜 것입니다. 다른 사람에게 피해를 줄 수 있고 당신의 거짓말이 당신에게 위험을 가할 수도 있습니다. 거짓말 하다가 들켜서 난처한 상황에 처한게 그나마 나은것입니다. 최악으로는 당신이 거짓말에 성공해서 당신의 성격이 비뚤어지고 가치판단이 병들어 가는 것입니다.  대부분 거짓말을 해롭습니다. 몇몇은 악의를 품은 것이나 다름없습니다. 당신이 이런유형 – 악의적인 유형-의 거짓말쟁이라면 당신의 거짓말은 악의적이며, 계획적이고 의도적이고, 냉혹하고 고의적인 악입니다. 즉 당신의 거짓말을 너무 심하게 사람의 마음에 상처를 주어서 다른 사람들을 놀라서 입을 다물지 못하게 만들고, 그 거짓말에 넌더리나게 만듭니다.
