Lesson 3.
이제 어원에 대한 공부를 하면서 어휘를 확장해 보겠습니다.
1. Laconia
Laconia는 고대 스파르타 지역을 지칭하던 단어입니다.
파생단어
Laconic – 스파르타와 같은 방식으로 말하는 즉 짧으면서 의미심장한
Laconicness – 간결, 간명
Laconicity – 간결, 간명
Laconism – 간결한 표현

2. cogo
Cogo는 라틴어로 함께 밀다. 강요하다 라는뜻을 가진 동사입니다.
파생단어
Cogent – (논리적으로) 밀어붙이는 즉 설득력 있는
Cogency – 타당성, 설득력
3. loquor
앞의 장에서도 보셨지만 라틴어로 말하다라는 의미입니다. 여기서는 추가적인 단어를 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

Eloquent – 말로(loquor) 바깥으로(e-) 잘 표현하는 즉 유창한, 호소력있는
Magniloquent – 크게(magnus) 말하는(loquor) 즉 호언장담하는

4. verbum
Verbum 은 라틴어로 ‘말’을 뜻합니다.
파생단어
Verbose – 말(verbum)이 많은 즉 장황한
Verbosity – 말등이 장황함
Verb – (행동을 나타내는) 말 – 즉 동사
Verbatim – 말을 다른말로(verbum) 즉 축어적으로
Verbal – 말로(verbum) 표현된 즉 구두의
Verbiage – 말(verbum)이 많음, 혹은 단어를 사용하는 방법 즉 말씨
5. volvo, volutus
Volve, volutus. 는 라틴어에서 구르다를 의미합니다.
파생단어
Voluble – (말이) 잘 굴러나오다(volvo) 즉 열변을 토하는
Volubility – 달변
Revolve – 다시(re) 구르다(volvo) 즉 계속 회전하다. 순환하다
Revolver – (탄창)이 계속 회전하는 것 즉 연발권총
Revolution – 완벽한(re) 1회전(volvo) 즉 급격한 변화, 혁명
Revolutionary – 혁명적인
Involve – 안(in)으로 구르다(volvo) 즉 포함하다
Involvement – 포함
Evolve – 바깥(e)으로 구르다(volvo) 즉 점진적으로 발전하다. 전개하다.
6. magnus
앞에서도 공부하셨지만 magnus는 큰, 거대한을 뜻하는 단어입니다.
